Due to the nature of this game, there are countless worlds a character may explore. First though, they must have been to this world already, otherwise the traveling doesn't work. There are two different ways for dimensional travel, one being by item, another by ability.
When going by item, you may travel as many times as you like without using MP, but if the item is broken, then you are stuck in the world you currently inhabit. The only way to leave it is to learn a dimensional traveling technique, or wait for someone to pick you up.
The second way is having the ability to travel between dimensions without items. This method though takes a large amount of energy as you are not only punching a hole in the dimensional walls, you also have to keep it open long enough to go through.
